Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

GENERAL CERTIFICATION QUESTIONS

How long does ISO certification take?

The full process typically takes 6 to 12 weeks. This includes the application, Stage 1 audit, Stage 2 audit, and the certification decision. If your management system is already well-developed, it may be faster.

Which ISO standards do you certify?

We currently offer certification for:

ISO 9001 – Quality Management

ISO 14001 – Environmental

ISO 45001 – Occupational Health & Safety

ISO/IEC 27001 – Information Security Management

What industries do you work with?

We serve clients across Construction, Engineering, Manufacturing, Automotive, Packaging Healthcare, Logistics, Education, Public Services, and IT.

APPLICATION & ELIGIBILITY

Can we certify even if we’ve never done ISO before?

Yes. We regularly work with first-time applicants. We also help organisations switching from another certification body. We offer readiness checks and gap audits without compromising impartiality.

Do you offer internal audits or pre-assessments?

Yes. We offer ISO 19011-based internal audits, supplier audits, and readiness assessments for compliance, certification prep, or tender purposes.

COSTS & PRICING

What does certification cost?

Certification is quoted based on your size, scope, number of sites, and industry. We provide a transparent, fixed quote upfront.

Audit day rates start from R9,500 per auditor/day.

How is certification billed?

Usually in stages:

Stage 1 audit

Stage 2 audit

Annual surveillance audits (for Year 2 and 3)

AUDIT PROCESS & TIMING

Will our team be disrupted during the audit?

No. We coordinate dates in advance, work around your operations, and keep the process smooth and respectful of your time.

Do we get support after the audit?

Yes. We provide:

Audit reports

Findings and improvement areas

Guidance on non-conformity close-outs (if any)

Ongoing communication as needed

Not yet. Intelicert is not SANAS-accredited at this time. Our 12-month compliance certificates are non-accredited and issued after an ISO/IEC 17021-1-aligned audit and independent decision. If you need an accredited ISO certificate, we can facilitate this via a partner accredited CB on request.

What’s the difference between a 12-month Compliance Certificate and an accredited ISO certificate?

Recognition: Accredited ISO certificates are recognised via the IAF/SANAS system; our compliance certificate is evidence of an independent audit, but not accredited.

Use cases: Good for supplier approval, internal assurance, or stepping-stone to accreditation. Some tenders (esp. public/large enterprise) require accredited certificates.

Oversight: Accredited CBs are regularly assessed by SANAS; our certificates are issued under our 17021-aligned process without SANAS oversight (yet).

Who accepts a non-accredited compliance certificate?

Acceptance is buyer-dependent. Many private buyers accept it when accreditation isn’t specified. If a tender explicitly requires a SANAS-accredited ISO certificate, you’ll need an accredited route.

How long is the compliance certificate valid?

12 months from the certification decision date. Keep it active via a simple annual renewal audit.

Can we move to an accredited ISO certificate later?

Yes. We can either:

Facilitate accredited certification via a partner accredited CB, or

Use your compliance-audit evidence to prepare for an accredited Stage 1/Stage 2 (final decisions remain fully independent).

Do you follow ISO/IEC 17021-1 even though you’re not accredited yet?

Yes. Our program is aligned to ISO/IEC 17021-1, including competence, impartiality, separation of audit and certification decision, and technical review.

How are audit days determined?

We size audits using the IAF MD5 method as guidance (organisation size, complexity, risk, sites), then confirm in your proposal.

Can you also do our internal audit and then issue our certificate?

To protect impartiality, we don’t issue a compliance certificate to any organisation we’ve consulted for (including conducting their internal audit) within the last 2 years. We can recommend independent internal-audit providers.

What happens if we get nonconformities (NCs)?

You’ll receive an NC report with clear actions and timelines. We only issue the certificate once major/significant NCs are closed and corrective actions are verified. Minor issues require an agreed corrective-action plan.

Can we use your logo/mark on our website or products?

You may state you hold an Intelicert 12-Month Compliance Certificate (non-accredited) and display our client mark (if provided). You may not use SANAS/IAF marks or imply accredited certification, and you must not imply product certification.

How can someone verify our certificate?

Each certificate includes a QR code / verification link to a live page showing certificate status, scope, and validity dates.
